Controversy time. Brass nipples are very good. But I recommend alloy. Why? They have a longer threaded section giving additional grip on the spoke that brass can’t match. Alloy is also much lighter than brass. Want to debate which is better? Call me.

MTB: All MTB wheels are 28 spokes front and rear.

Road Rim-Brake Wheels: The standard is 20 spokes on the front wheel, 24 spokes on the rear. For a rider weighing over 180 pounds, we recommend making the rear wheel 28 spokes. This will make the wheel somewhat heavier but also more durable.

Road and Gravel Disc-Brake Wheels: The standard is 24 spokes on the front wheel and 28 spokes on the rear. We do also offer 28 spoke hubs on the front wheel, but we do not recommend this option as it has no benefit unless you have an older mountain bike which will accept these wheels and you intend to swap them between bikes. This will make the wheel somewhat heavier but also more durable.
